She retrieved the keys and made her way to the garage, heart steady but alert. Opening the trunk, she found bags, tools, and powdery dust — nothing dangerous, yet puzzling and out of place. Her mind raced as she tried to make sense of it all.
She spent the night awake, imagining every harmless — and not-so-harmless — possibility. The next morning, she confronted Adam calmly. He looked startled, then let out a soft, nervous smile that didn’t match her fears.
