Mavis’s diagnosis with advanced dementia marked a new chapter in their life together, introducing challenges that Jay describes as both emotionally taxing and profoundly meaningful.

Rather than retreating or delegating her care entirely to a facility, Jay took the extraordinary step of becoming actively involved in Mavis’s daily life.

He has committed himself to being her caregiver, companion, and advocate, ensuring she receives the care, attention, and affection she needs.

In April 2024, when the conservatorship was granted, Mavis’s lawyer confirmed that she was “in agreement” with the decision and highlighted that she was “receiving excellent care with her husband, Mr. Leno.”

This move allowed Jay to make decisions in her best interest, from overseeing medical treatments to managing day-to-day routines, all while maintaining her dignity and comfort.

Jay’s approach to caregiving is rooted in love, patience, and perspective. During the 34th annual Love Ride at the Harley-Davidson store in Glendale, California, on November 9, Jay spoke candidly about the experience.

As grand marshal for the charity event, which has raised over $25 million since 1984, Jay reflected on his life off-stage, emphasizing the emotional and personal journey of caring for a spouse with dementia.
